Direct Film Animation Experiments

Direct Film Animation Experiments
A collection of experiments created by applying or removing material from celluloid film.
This collection shows an array of experiments from Alternative Methods in Motion Media Design class at SCAD Savannah. The following experiments focus on direct film animation such as applying materials to clear celluloid film or by scratching the base of black celluloid film. Seen here are examples of sharpie, India ink, nail polish, and paint on clear film; additionally is an example of scratching black film.

These were recorded using an Elmo 16mm projector feeding through HDMI into a large TV, then filming the TV with my iPhone. I’m currently researching more effective and consistent methods to capture my direct film animation work.
