Canis Vulgaris – illustration + label design

This is a personal project, having never been made into a final product.
CONCEPT

For my 31st birthday party, I wanted to make an exclusive beer, so different that it would surprise all the party guests. Canis vulgaris is the scientific name of the common dog, and "vulgar" means ordinary but can also mean rude or coarse, so I thought a foul-mouthed dog would perfectly represent this beer's name.
CREATION

The illustration was inspired by the snot art, which biggest name is probably Jimbo Phillips (or maybe his father Jim). I have always been a fan of his work and drew myself a lot of snot art-ish stuff when I was a kid, so this art style would fit perfectly on a beer that reflects my personal taste.

This beer also represented the essence of DIY – since I could do with it whatever I wanted to – so not only the label had three variations, the liquid itself was tinted in five colors, which were yellow (natural), green, blue, purple and pink. The bottles were capped with three different cap colors too.

Every color variation was randomized so my 31st birthday party guests never knew what they'd get, and that was a lot of fun!
