REDESIGNING UNIVERSITY | WILLIAM MILLS | TEDXUAL

As an ambassador for Nightline and undergraduate in Advertising at the London College of Communication, William Mills believes in a broader definition of design in University environments. With a personal history of mental illness, he highlights the importance of investing in higher education in a way that we are not. His holistic ideas and creative approach to problem solving offer an inclusive, student centred image of the future. His empathetic research into the socially isolated, frenzied pace of University life aims to challenge innovation and welcome students from all backgrounds to the design equation.

William’s voluntary work at Nightline’s student listening service has provided multiple insights into the tragically misunderstood lives of first year undergraduates. The cultural change of being a student and it’s debilitating effect on mental health has doubled campus suicide rates and given light to an epidemic that must be addressed.

Although William’s experience of Advertising is predominately commercial, he believes that by taking his entrepreneurial skills and applying them to this complex and design sensitive issue, he can inspire a collective of individuals to do the same.
