Restored Chair and Footstool

Restored Chair and Footstool
A school restoration work
I found some of my late grandmother's old furniture from the store room. My mom took them out and asked me if I could restore them in school. They were really old and in a very bad condition. I took a closer look and decided that it would be wise to get rid of the old cushions. They smelled of an old barn and were otherwise worn out. I scraped off all the paint form the wooden structures with just a scraping iron. I gets your thumbs really weary! Some of the joints had to be glued again to strengthen the chair frame. So, i had to detach some parts from the chair by heating up the natural glue that would then melt. Its an old chair and it was glued together by using some kind of ancient bone glue. As the glue heats up, it releases a very unpleasant stink! I used a gas mask, and recommend that for everyone.

I stained and varnished the chair and the footstool while still in parts, and padded the seats later, once they were reassembled.

Here they are, all new and polished!
All the tools needed to prepare a decent padding!
Almost done. They are only missing a suitable fabric. It took me a while to find one.

They say, "A chair is every carpenter's first challenge". This was my 6th!
