For this project I was commissioned by the Anthropology and sociology club at Easter Illinois University to design a club t-shirt based on Karl Marx and Franz Boas.

   

Step one of my design process was gathering decent images of both Karl and Franz. Above are the highest resolution photos I could find.

For step two I separated both figures from the background and proceed to bitmap them.

Following the bitmap, I planned to create a playing card style composition with each person's last name filling the opposing empty space. I included a diagonal crop down the middle to add a dynamic feel.

Above is the final t-shirt that was printed by Gavina Graphics. There was one small issue with the diagonal being printed black, but I assume it's because of the transparency and the lack of communication between the client and Gavina (I was not involved with production; just the design).
