This is a solo exhibition presenting insights into the emergence of the ‘Mat’ Rock phenomenon in the 1980s. ‘Mat’ as in short and casual for ‘Ahmad’, an ubiquitous Malay name and when formed together with the word ‘Rock’, it classifies a community of Malay Rock fans. This project investigates the archiva-bility of Malay Rock as a cultural phenomenon in an attempt to preserve Malay musical heritage.
