Physical Type / DNA

A physical typography project making the intangible concept of naturalness, in the novel 'The Lathe of Heaven', tangible. The visual allusion to DNA strands and chromosomes, metaphorically examined under a microscope, is meant to convey a simultaneous sense of innate naturalness and manufactured artificiality.
The physical type was constructed out of laser-cut acrylic. After each letter was photographed and digitized, letters were arranged into a phrase used in the novel, "Nothing Unnatural", serving as the focal point of the print poster. The poster was printed, installed, and photographed as documentation.
