Cocoanut | Sustainable Packaging

This project was focused on re-packaging any existing product in the market with sustainable material.
I chose to work with cocoa beans that would be packaged in coconut shells.

why this combination?

- cocoa cultivation takes place mainly in Ooty, Tamil Nadu where farmers follows an “inter-crop method” of cultivation- where cocoa seeds are sown along with coconut trees to double the income.
The seeds need 60% shade to grow to their optimal potential, which the coconut trees are able to provide.

- In the product packaging created, ‘Cocoanut’, the coconut shells act as the protector of the cocoa beans (placed in a jute bag inside); just as they shelter the seeds as they ripen.

- this also reflects the product combination in todays market of coconut with chocolate in sweets (for example, bounty, barfis (Indian sweets), etc)
product packaging sketches/iterations
packaging created in the form of the following:

- a sticker to cover the bean-shaped opening of the lid (illustration)

- a label at the bottom of the container (brand name, product name, price, warning,
mfg and exp)

- a tag that hangs from the lid (brand name, product name, weight, packaging details, benefits of the product, place of cultivation)
