Furniture Design | Google Lounge

Project Brief

The brief behind this Furniture Design 01 project was to design furniture for a theoretical Google Lounge based in Downtown San Francisco.

During this process, we were to come up with little mock ups of our design iterations and take photos of them in the diorama that our team made. The diorama represented the scale and interior design of the Google Lounge. After we had our final designs and mock ups finished, we were told to create a short video of our mock ups in our diorama. This short video was, in a way, fun to create. It was actually my first time creating a stop-motion video and also my first time using Adobe After Effects to create the finished product.

This is what I came up with after a few weeks of iterations and narrowing down the design style for the Google Lounge.

The two pieces here are the full scale buck and form study. The buck really helped me figure out ergonomic aspects of my design. I initially didn't incorporate cushions into my design, but after asking users to test this piece with and without cushions, the cushions won. After putting the cushions, I had to change a part of my design where the cushion had to be flushed with the surface of the furniture.
These are just a few of the scaled down models that I made during the iterative process.
