Notation to Notations of a Book

Notation to Notations of a Book
Information Design, Art Direction, Print Design
The Brief: Based on the subject matter in which you are interested in investigating, collect it's data and do something with. Fascinated by the relationship between a book and it's user or users. I decided to probe into the legacies each user leaves behind – Notations, as my subject matter.
In terms of data collection, I'm looking at the different types of notations like dog-eared, inserts, underline, post-its and highlights.

The Idea: To use existing notations of one particular book title and the multiple copies it has in the school's library (London College of Communication) as a visual expression and manifestation that connects the people who have used that book. Making their relationship to the book tangible. Notation as (Collection + Typology) and (Data + Statistics).

The Solution: "The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge" by Jean-François Lyotard was the choose book title and it has 6 copies in the library. Basically, I would recreate the book with the only difference that I would omitted any details that comes from the book and magnify the presence of the different notes.

+

1) Visual System:  Each book are color coded, you would know which book did the notes originated from.
It would also create a very interesting visual dynamics having all the notes from different books overlaying each other.

2) Two Part Narrative
Part A [Data Collection (Perceving)] —
Presentation of the data collected in it's original form and location with the elimination of the text body from the book,
just the notations in their visual system in place.

Part B [Analytial Exploration (Interpreting) + Visualisation & Input (Comprehending)] —
Communicates the collected data, with qualitative content, informing of the insights and explaining what happened so far.
For differentiation, the orientation of information is tilted in 90 degrees, seen in a landscape format.

The Insight:
What is the most popular note taking method? Underlining
What area of the book does the note frequently appear?  Front and Back of the Book
Which section has the most notes? The Introduction
