Advanced Movie Making -

Unit 1:

Activity 1:

Special Effects - It is an illusion made for television and movies by camerawork, computer graphics or using different kinds of props and sets.
Visual Effects - The process by which imagery is created or manipulated outside the context of a live action shot.
Practical Effects - A practical effect is a special effect that is done or produced physically
without any use of computers or camera effects.
Chroma Key - aka chroma key compositing, or chroma keying, is a special effects / post-production technique (layering) two images or video streams together based on color hues. Blue screen was used before dslr cameras were created due to how the colour blue works well with human skin colour. But since green coloured screens are able to produce more detail in a Dslr camera it is now the more common colour used in chroma keying. Garbage mattes make certain pixels transparent to add two images together. Both chroma keying and garbage mattes add multiple images or videos together while they differ by the process of doing so. Chroma key takes out a specific colour (blue or green) to add another video or image while garbage matte just takes ceertain pixels and makes it transparent.

5 Practical Effects -
- Weather effects
- Prosthetic / Makeup
- Live shot explosion
- Props, like masks, puppets.
- Squibs

My Favorite:
Director: Chris Columbus - Chris Joseph Columbus is an American filmmaker. Columbus is known for directing movies such as Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Mrs. Doubtfire, Harry Potter and Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. I love his originality and creativeness which puts in all his movies.
Movies: The Incredibles (2004) Brad Bird, because the story shows how important family is and how important teamwork is as well. Not only that but it has some sick action scenes.
Fast and Furious: Tokyo drift (2006) directed by Justin Lin, because it gets very intense and gets your blood rushing. Not only does it have cool car scenes but it has a pretty good soundtrack too.
Freedom Writers (2007) directed by Richard LaGravenesse, because this is one of the movies I actually remembered and its very touching, inspiring and you can also learn a lot from it.
Favorite Scene: Rush Hour 3 is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen, and the "me, you" scene is my favorite scene of all time and cracks me up every time I see it. I never get sick of it. But other than that, the "yo momma" scene from White Chicks would also be a favorite of mine. I had a difficult time choosing between the two.
