Flea control is an issue that most cat and dog owners face from time to time. Getting rid of fleas requires eliminating them at every stage of the life cycle, from eggs to mature fleas.

If your pets spend time outside, remove potential flea habitats. Focus on areas where your pet spends most of its time, and remove inviting organic debris such as straw bedding and yard waste.

Frequent vacuuming indoors is crucial for flea control, but vacuuming alone will only remove half of the flea eggs. To kill the rest of the eggs, use a carpet powder, spray, or fogger.

Be careful with toxic chemicals, and do not use them in the presence of children, pets, or aquariums. Wash pet beds and blankets weekly to mitigate flea problems.

Directly treat pets for fleas. Many people prefer to use monthly topical products, which are easy to use and long-lasting. Flea sprays, dips, baths, and collars are also effective options. Follow label directions carefully.
