This artwork stands as a personal dialogue about Women in India: their freedom and their rights inspired by personal experiences in the artists life. The conceal/ reveal nature of the piece represents the artists thoughts, slowly revealed to the viewer after. This aspect is of utmost importance and it represents the main motive of the piece, as the artist, being a women still thinks about " what the society will say if they read her real thoughts."
It also allows the viewer to take as much or as less as they please from this piece, and to interpret it for themselves.
This piece is the coming together of 3 components. Each one consists of 21 layers of text along with the use of Indigo Dye, however they differ from one another in the methodology.
This cloth has been developed using screen printing and is then dyed using Indigo Dye.
In this layer, the text has been screen-printed 21 times, and then dyed, giving it the light tinge of blue.
It is the 1st Layer of the artwork, and its lightly dyed nature creates a harmony with the layers that lay behind .
The second layer of the artwork comprises of a richer blue with very faint text that is almost hidden in the cloth itself. It uses the process of resist dye.
In this layer, the text has been screen-printed in 21 layers, while dyeing the cloth in between each layer of printing.
The third and final layer of the artwork is the most visible. Over here, the Indigo powder has been used for printing itself, resulting in the dark blue text.
It creates a contrast with the white fabric and completes the piece as it finally reveals itself.
The artwork comes together as a puzzle that is incomplete without one of the components, and the components follow a particular order to make the puzzle a whole.
