Design Museum Danmark
Recently I visited the Design Museum Danmark in (Denmark) Copenhagen. The purpose for the visit was none other than a passion for Scandinavian design and to learn and experience more of it.

I was particularly enthralled by the chairs exhibition entitled ‘The Danish Chair’. The exhibition both instructs and invites the viewer ‘show me your chair and I will tell you who you are’ which appears to encapsulate the whole exhibition.  From a outsider’s view the Danish culture places a deeper value upon design, this concept seems fully embodied in Danish chairs, for instance, you do not simply have a chair, you have a historic capsule echoing past designers, you have a vessel for the body, an ergonomic form or an art installation. This exhibition gave me great insight into the innovation in design in Denmark and new eyes to look at pieces of design that are frequently overlooked.

“The chair is the closest thing to a human being. You can give it personal expression”

My personal journey to the design museum was documented through the leaflets I picked up, the copious photographs I took and the layout and grandeur that cannot be conveyed in a photo.  I think it also benefitted my practise, in the story behind the work and striving for creating beautiful design objects worthy of such exhibitions.
