Artwork for DYL's "Numbers Words Shadows" EP that will see the light of day on the 3rd of March on the famous Translation Recordings. It will be a digital exclusive release featuring a broad range of aural textures blended into intricate amens.
The graphic concept for this release is a straight forward one as the title implies. I have tried to convey the ideas in a very direct manner using simple graphic elements and ramping up complexity through structure. This process is obvious in the sequence of preliminary files displayed below.
As most of my recent work can attest, I usually start with basic mathematical constructs or methods and I let them generate the visual narrative. In this particular case I began by defining a set of rules for rotation similar to John Conway's Game of Life.
The above rules were meant to generate the 2D base plane. The title components were used as overlapping layers in order to get a sense of depth and a meaningful complexity.
