Ethnographic Research and Existing Design Flaws
Observation with no personal interaction with the users
Major Issues Observed
Example
User: ~ 50 years of age, male
Total time spent at kiosk: 3 minutes, 24 seconds
Observation: The user inserts an American Express credit card into the card acceptor three times, and it is rejected each time. He leaves the kiosk with a frustrated expression and returns to the kiosk after three minutes to try his credit card twice more. The user leaves the kiosk without success.
Problem: The user is unaware of the accepted payment methods. The kiosk only accepts Visa and Mastercard; however, the indicating stickers labeled on the kiosk are too small to be easily noticeable.
