Each year before the NCAA bowl selection process the Toledo Rockets send out a little "pick us" gift to the bowl committees. It's a unique way for us to reach out to the bowl committees and showcase our program a little more than just the statistics. This year we created a board game called "Candle Land" named after our first year head coach Jason Candle. The game works like any traditional board game where you start at one point and draw cards to work your way along to the finish line. The spaces on the board are the Rockets games throughout the season with the final space being the bowl logo, which was personalized to each bowl. The playing cards each feature a statistic about the Rockets which determines how many spaces your character moves and each character is a Rockets player, including Jason Candle, our mascot Rocky, and our 8 players nominated for national awards this year.
The game was only created for the nine bowls that were eligible for and one additional board that was sent to ESPN. We received a tremendous amount of great feedback from the bowl committees and the game was featured on the Montgomery 12 News after we were selected for the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.
