Leamington Planes Mural

This mural is painted on a temporary facade protecting the new storefronts of the historic Leamington Building are under construction on the corner of Franklin st. And 19th St. in Oakland, California.
The mural wraps around two sides of the building and is approximately 100 feet long by 12 feet high. The subject matter of classic 1930’s style airplanes is a nod to the history of the building. The Leamington used to be home to the offices of Amelia Earhart, and was the last place she was seen before her fateful disappearance in 1937. I did an illustration to scale and then used it as the basis of the final painting, which I painted by hand with brushes and house paint over the course of three and a half days.
