JAVANESE WORDMARKS
2016-2018
The Javanese script, now mostly relegated to decorative formalities in public signage, was once widely used for product advertisements in 19th-20th century Java. If the script were as popular now as it was then, modern brands might localize their logo (specifically wordmarks) into this fascinating script, in the same vein as Thai, Chinese, and Korean. Below is my second attempt in localizing latin wordmarks into Javanese. The inherently ornate Javanese letters is surprisingly flexible in style, though several adjustments had to be made to accommodate correct pronunciation (instead of direct transliteration) and the original latin typography.
