Joel Todd Leroy Prince's profile

American Board of Veterinary Practitioners Diplomate

A small animal veterinarian with two and a half decades of experience, Dr. Joel Todd Leroy Prince currently treats patients at four clinics in the Chicago area. Dr. Joel Todd Leroy Prince is a graduate of the University of Illinois, and one of only 15 Illinoisans to receive diplomate distinction from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP).

Founded in 1978, the ABVP is a prestigious collective of veterinary professionals selected for their expertise and superior practice in various animal medicine fields. The board certifies individuals in 11 categories including food animal, shelter medicine, equine, and canine and feline practice.

The ABVP offers certification programs at two affiliated universities: PennState, which provides a dairy production medicine certificate program, and the extension program at Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. These recognized certificate programs, which span three years plus a clinical practice period, provide practicing veterinarians an alternative to completing postgraduate work or a residency.

The canine and feline specialty of the ABVP, in which Dr. Prince is certified, has the most diplomates of all the categories, with nearly 500 across the country. The certified veterinarians are required to remain well-versed in medicine and surgery, preventive and behavioral care, and public health. This vast body of knowledge makes the diplomates a group of highly sought-after veterinary professionals.
