University Faculty and Staff Housing

This was my undergraduate thesis for the Architecture program at the University of the Philippines. Our class was tasked to design buildings with the future of the university in mind. I chose to tackle housing for staff and faculty. There were issues with the backlog of housing units, as well as some residents making unauthorized changes or additions to their dwellings to accommodate growth of their household over time.
To address these issues I proposed medium-rise structures containing compact units that will allow expansion should the need arise in the future. Locating the utilities around the central core of the buildings and providing a frame around the initial structure, it would be possible for the residents to expand their respective units outward. By anticipating the future growth of households at the onset of design, this prototype for housing becomes more responsive to the needs of its residents.
This was recognized as the 6th best thesis in the 2011 undergraduate batch of the Architecture program in the university. It was also awarded Student Design Excellence in the 2011 Philippine Real Estate Festival by the Philippine Institute of Architects.
