LAUNCHING A PREMIUM DESIGN ON A STARTUP TIMELINE

At MINIMAL, having built startups from insight to execution, we've been through the journey countless times and have become experts at connecting critical dots and executing with precision.

When Nucleus asked us to design the hardware for their namesake product, we saw an exciting opportunity. Their timeline to launch, however, was tight. We encouraged them to embrace a pragmatic approach to innovation.

Integrating into their team would be critical in making the vision a reality. We rolled up our sleeves and got in the trenches with them, becoming an intermediary between our partner and the manufacturer, managing late-night calls through the DFM process, and iterative prototyping and testing until we got it right.

“Not only are they world-class experts in their disciplines, they are also wonderful people who care deeply about
you and your product. Their expertise and care were obvious throughout every aspect of our partnership.”
— Jonathan Frankel, Founder of Nucleus
DESIGNING FOR MANUFACTURABILITY

Too often, startups come to us because their first attempt at design resulted in a solution that couldn't be manufactured properly. Having Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering under one roof at MINIMAL allowed us to work together seamlessly with the Nucleus team throughout the process.

This ensured that our concepts were evaluated not only on aesthetics and usability, but also on engineering and execution. From the beginning, we were optimizing the design for manufacturability—consolidating parts, reducing costs, and strategically integrating the components and technology.

The result was a design that hit the aggressive schedule and COG targets while maintaining design quality and intent throughout the process.
