(Sub)Urban
Living on the Urban Edge of
Addictions
The objective was to provide a platform that presents lifestyle, living and visual commentary on what is happening at the urban ‘edge’ of Port Elizabeth and Mandela Bay.
SubUrban is a publication based in Mandela Bay, pegged at the new sub-culture of design aware/eco-conscious consumers. Its intent is to build on the urban:suburban tension, expressed previously, through the inclusion of provocative and engaging articles on this interface, this crossover space, these interstices.
The “warts and all” approach is what is set to position SubUrban in the role of ‘public voice’.
The magazine hopes to convey a non-commercial identity even while it obviously needs to operate in a traditional commercial environment. To meet this objective half of the magazine will stick strictly to an established grid and layout design. The rest, inclusive of feature articles, will be freeform expressiveness.
