Modular Design & Expandability For An Urban Market
I wanted my marketplace to follow a symmetric, modular construction to allow for easy and cost-effective construction and expansion. I also wanted to create a unifying roof element that seemed to float above the marketplace, subtly telling people on the outside to enter. The outside of the slanted roof element is fourteen feet and slopes down to ten feet above the wading pool where it is open except for the beams running across. The wading pool in the center is a central gathering place with a stage directly above it. There are multiple ways of entering the marketplace from each center of the sides and at each diagonal. There are eight market stalls, four in each corner with them being open to both the marketplace and sidewalk, and allowing easy loading and unloading for vendors from their vehicles on the street.
