The society has divided into five factions Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intellectual). The remaining population are the Factionless, who have no status or privilege in this society.The leader of the city divided the society into five factions in order to keep peace of the city The brillance of the faction system is that comformity to the faction removes the threat of the individual exercising their independet will . This what allow them to live in peace. Each year, all sixteen-year-olds take an aptitude test that determines the faction for which they are best suited. After receiving the results, test takers choose a faction at the Choosing Ceremony, no matter what their results were. Those who do not complete initiation into their new faction become "factionless" and are forced to live in poverty on the streets of the city. What does the divergent means ? It makes us think of the word different immediately , maybe going in a different direction . It also makes us think of the word ‘ diversity’ which means several different forms . Due to different meanings we all pull from the word’ divergent’ it can have both connota- tions , it could either mean good or bad .’’ Becoming fearless isn’ t the point .
