2012 Gala Children's Hospital Video
The 2012 gala for this children's hospital in Delaware benefited the Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. When I began this project, I didn't know anything about blood or bone marrow transplants or why a child would need one. But as I met the families, doctors and nurses we interviewed for this video, I learned a whole lot – not just about the dire circumstances that cause a child to need a transplant, but about resilience, compassion and respect for just how fragile life can be.
Everyone we met on this shoot was so happy and optimistic, which I thought was unexpected – and really special. So while we were editing, I tried to translate those uplifting feelings into this video while also capturing the gravity of each child's situation.
