Economics of Compassion | Identity Design

The Economics of Compassion is a nonprofit working to help change the economics systems of Cincinnati, in order to help the poor become more financially stable and independent. The deliverables for the project included two alternative organization names, an identity mark, secondary assests, and a website mockup.

The final design was created to emphasize the compassionate, community focus of the organization, rather than its greater economic goals. To emphasize compassion, a humanist sans serif typeface was chosen. The rounded edges make the word mark more approachable and the sans serif makes it relevant and modern. The icon was created to represent two separate entities coming together, just as ECI is working together with local communities. The colors were also chosen to highlight the energy and vibrancy of the organization. Finally, the pattern included in the secondary assets references geography with topographic-like lines emphasizes to emphasize the organization’s goal to radiate change throughout the neighborhoods of Cincinnati. Overall, the client was very happy with this concept and felt it embodied the many aspects of their organization.

This rebrand was my intern project while working at LPK, Inc during the summer of 2015. I was able to submit three concepts and have two presented to the client. I was one of two interns who attended the client meeting and pitched all of the intern’s concepts, including my own, to the a group of seven board members. The intern project allowed me to get an inside look at the workings of a client project within a larger firm.
