The OutOfBounds Software Solutions logo was designed in a very short amount of time. They needed the logo to be done on time for the release of a video, so I went through a whole bunch of different concepts and ideas before ending up with the one above. Below are the only two other concepts that made it to the actual design stage.

This first concept was the obvious way to go. Sometimes, the first idea you get is the ideal route to take, but other times, it's too obvious and not original. In this case, it's what the average person would assume when thinking of the phrase "out of bounds", which could lead to this being a quite memorable logo. Unfortunately, this look was too bulky and needed to be simplified. I tried a few other concepts based on the concept of "something escaping from its boundaries" to no avail.

This is the second concept that made it past the pen and paper stage. It also plays with the idea of something leaving its container but, unfortunately, the fact that the company's name starts with the letter "b" means that the we've seen logos similar to this a million times before. One of the most famous uses of this look is the logo used for "Beats By Dre." I did try a few other designs based on this idea, but they all looked too similar to existing logos.

This was my next attempt. I tried to take an extremely simplified route and it seemed like the client really liked that. My take on this is: All three shapes are the exact same, except the third one has a line protruding out of it. The similar circular patterns indicate containment, like a series of jail cells all beside each other, with something escaping from the third cell. Therefore: Out Of Bounds.

The initial design started with shades of red and orange, but once finalized, the client asked for me to show them other colour options. They liked the green I used in the "Beats By Dre" logo, so one of the options I provided them was also green. I tried to stick to bold, highly saturated colours.

My personal favourites are still the orange/red and the purple, but they definitely liked the green most. I followed up by providing them with a whole bunch of different green options, as you can see below:

They picked one of the green logos and I showed them three versions using the colours they chose. Above are the same exact logo, but with a gradient overlay set to 25% in the second logo and 50% in the third logo.

They liked the second option the most.
