The Pilgrimage

This is a site-specific walking meditation performance took place on August 19th 2015 during sunset. It is pilgrimage of Syrian Jewish women walking towards Shaare Zion, which is the synagogue where Syrian Jewish weddings are typically held. The women are dressed in white wedding dresses in anticipation. Each woman grasps a red apple by her waist creating a physical representation of virginity.  The hand holding the apple is encased in a plexi glass box. The Plexi glass box represents the invisible force of community ideals. Faces are covered by a white vials. The pilgrimage starts With Myself leading the group of 5 Woman walking along the path on Ocean Parkway and Avenue J in Brooklyn, New York. We walk as a form of meditation, reclaiming our body and empowering ourselves as Woman.
