Santos Figures, 2016, Various Sizes, Monotype on Paper. This series, begun after participating in the Woodstock Monoprintathon in May of 2016, references the Santos, iconic religious folk art sculptures, made mostly of wood, which I'd seen during a trip to Santa Fe, NM in October of 2015. Angels or winged goddesses, protectors or female deities, I find these spiritual references both comforting, fierce, warrior like and gentle all at once. In printmaking, I play with plate texture and how ink behaves. Most of these have been created with oil based ink on plexi glass, running through a press. My next project is to work with the ghost images in collage work on paper and canvas.
