Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw / Faculty of Media Art
Created by the Cracovian architectural studio Vostok Design, the concept of the building won the open competition for a new building of the Faculty and was realised in 2015-2016.
The central idea was to create a building that would co-exist in a subtle and
non-invasive way with the former Academy seat, which dates back to the early 20th century. The end result is a building nearly completely devoid of architectural detail, whose frugal and modest form does not overwhelm you. Being modern as it is, it blends well with the existing historical urban tissue of Warsaw's Wola district, and reflects well its post-industrial nature. The contrast between the old and new Academy buildings is pronounced, but not aggressive. The new building offers spacious and comfortable studios, some of which feature large windows, where students can display their works.
