The woven samples represent the idea of existentialism demonstrated through the borrowed ideas from Francis Bacon’s paintings. They stand for the false virtue of religious institutions, which preach Fear of God and promise Salvation when in fact they are a social construct that serve as mere distractions from man’s ultimate fate- to be Dead Meat. Since the inspiration is Figure with Meat, the main element thus derived is raw meat or “potential carcass that the human body really is.”
Mood board for the woven samples featuring Francis Bacon's Figure With Meat and the original Velazquez’s Portrait of Pope Innocent X, from which it was inspired.
