Droidcon NYC is an annual two-day conference for Android developers, organized by Touchlab. I was tasked with designing the visual identity for the 2015 conference, held at the Metropolitan Pavillion. Touchlab wanted the visuals to stand out from other Droidcon events around the world, yet still remain instantly recognizable to their audience. I created a set of icons that drew upon existing vernacular within the Android community: Flat, bright colors and simple, geometric shapes, including elements of Google’s Material Design principles – customized to reflect the people and icons of New York City. By building upon a familiar style, we were able to easily connect with and engage Android developers from all over the world, yet surprise them with unexpected details.
