The Hub: iPhone App

The Hub
iPhone App
As part of a brief to engage people with reading again, I identified Britain's local libraries as a problem area amongst young people. They just don't want to go.
I came up with The Hub as a new alternative to libraries, introducing the idea of a social hub to local communities. The Hub differs from a library in that it offers an open plan space to socialise, meet over a smoothie or a coffee, attend events such as Angry Birds competitions and film nights, as well as offering a selection of books, iPads and Kindles for people to browse.

Accompanying this is the iPhone app. Designed for the iPhone, this was my first 'real' foray into the digital design world - and I enjoyed it immensely. The app fits with the Hub's Scandinavian Chic look, going against the 'digital' look in favour of something more characterful with a vintage twist, whilst keeping the idea of books being at the core of the whole brief, through the use of traditional type.

Users are given information such as upcoming events, they can be directed to download games for the competitions (such as Angry Birds), view photos and videos from recent events, check in via Facebook or tweet about The Hub from inside the app. They can also view deals at The Hub's cafe amongst other things.
Home screen, "What's On" screen detailing information on upcoming events, "Leaderboard" screen for weekly Angry Birds and Scrabble competition nights.
Opening times, social elements (check in, tweet about it, share a deal via email), "Deals" where users can access deal coupons inside the app and show them across the counter.
