Styrofoam
Black Ink

This piece was inspired by the labyrinth of colossal ice structures that had once often protruded the sea of the Antarctic and created a beautiful natural scenery. I often associated these images with the passage of time - as if these colossal structures were in fact colossal gates that with each passing, the passenger would enter a new realm of the present. The colossal ice was depicted with randomly carved pieces of styrofoam that naturally emitted the image of its inspiration without much effort. Though originally blue and clear in color, this piece embodies this part of nature in simple tones of black and white and presents the labyrinth within running black ink - the ink representing the running river of time, a both sinister and calm concept akin to those of traditional asian paintings.
