Traditionally, photographs were the go to medium to document events and capture memories physically. With advances in digital technology there is no longer a need to develop photos, creating photo albums or scrapbooks, as people now have access to digital photo books and Photoshop; and mobile phones. Photo albums allow people to relive their memories over and over again. However, what if there was a system that allows these cherished memories to resurface without so much as lifting a finger?
Memores (Latin for “to remember”) is an APP designed to trigger people’s memories and remind them of past events in their lives at a particular location, especially when they have long forgotten about it. It intentionally evokes nostalgia, something that is often lacking in the bustling everyday lives of the Working class and also helps to improve memory, making it a perfect APP for the elderly and people diagnosed with Alzheimer.
Memores, in a nutshell is a memory map made visual that documents photos, videos and notes taken of a certain event at a particular time and place, relying on the GPS system of a mobile device. The individual simply records the moments at the event and the APP automatically stores this in its system, tracking the date and location where it occurred. Whenever the individual next passes by the location, a reminder of all the different memories they’ve had there will appear, and they can choose to browse through and “relive those moments.” It is a convenient digital photo album that individuals can look through anytime without the need to go through heavy photo albums. As most people in today’s society have access to a mobile phone, Memores closes the gap between the device and its user through establishing a level of intimacy by allowing the individual to relive their memories. It is a living memory, even though the individuals may not always remember it themselves. Memores, is to relive the moment.
