When I started seeing buzz about a book called Truthwitch on my Twitter, I went to check out the author. It didn’t take long for me to start liking Susan Dennard, especially with how enthusiastic and responsive she was. It was easy for me to reach out to her and offer to do some lettering for her book, and she quickly responded.

The quote comes from a vow made by a certain group of monks in the book, and since it was a fantasy, it felt fitting to have it done in serifs. I had the idea to break the phrase, “Guide my aether, claim my blade,” into two, with the design and structure mirroring each other. The decision to make the background blue was easy, to complement the cover of the book.

The design was used as a part of the preorder and promotional campaign for the book.
