For my final self-directed project, I decided to immerse myself into researching contrasts of creative processes between different cultures. Because of my heritage, I focused on the highest regarded form of art in Chinese culture: calligraphy.
I created seals of common Chinese characters with a Western perspective - by adding pictographic elements that inform Western audiences of the character's meaning, yet remaining true to the character's form. The scrolls narrate the creative processes of calligraphy and design.
