For a lark, I took a photo of my cousins and their friends and traced their outlines and outfits. I tweaked the facial features to give them an anime style.

This was made with ProCreate, shortly before they added the "Fill" tool. Most of the colors for both skin tones and outfits were sampled from the original photo. Any colors that fade from one to another were painted in two colors then blended with the smudge tool.
I took some samples from the line art without the fill or background photo... 
Here's with the background photo and some fill. 
Here's the first finished version without the background...
...and with a new one taken from the wooded area outside. I forgot to turn up the opacity for the dress fill so it looked fine on a white background but... oops. 
I was then asked to give them their Zombie Apocalypse survival weapons... I decided to save a shot of the fill layer without the line work.
