Cadence and Shining Armor (Shields and Swords)

Inspired by My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I noticed an interesting feature of Cadence and Shining Armor's cutie marks...
They fit together. More specifically if you remove the extra flourishes from their cutie marks so it's just the heart and the shield, they fit together perfectly. How did I replicate that? By cutting the two shields from one piece of particle board.
The shields are painted to have the same pattern as the two cutie marks and the extra flourishes of the cutie marks are worked into the cross-guard and pommel of each sword. The length of the swords are designed after the owner's horn.
The shields are named for their resppecive owners.
I named Cadence's sword, Birdsong
I named Shining Armor's sword, Star-Knight
The swords were tapered along the length from a 1" diameter, 3' long dowel. Each has a ball screwed into the bottom for the pommel that was designed as a curtain rod end or a wooden doll head. The cross-guards were cut to shape first and slipped through a slot milled through the sword. Then a piece of leather was wrapped around the hilt to make a more comfortable grip.
The back of each shield has a parachute-cord weave strap for the forearm and another two attached to leather-wrapped dowel for the grip.
The shields and swords were given a protective spray finish. The photos were taken before the finish was applied.

I made a matching set of costume swords and shields based on characters from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
