DesignWeekRI Schedule

About

The goal of this project was to design a printed schedule for DesignWeek, sponsored annually by DesignxRI. I began by brainstorming and mind-mapping to form a concept, and by analyzing the event information categorically to develop an appropriate format based on hierarchical structure. DesignWeek’s events are open and accessible to the public as an opportunity to explore and connect, and I was inspired to reflect this open door philosophy in the design of the schedule.

The custom folder opens like an invitation to explore various design disciplines and events. The envelope-like flaps are arrows that extend outward, suggesting new opportunities and directions, and are echoed in both the die cut arrows pointing to the information within, as well as the image of interconnected nodes on the back page. I photographed different instances of design for the flaps, to represent the variety of design disciplines showcased in DesignWeek. These disciplines also appear in type inside the die cut diamond, where their letters vertically align to form the words Design RI. A removable calendar organizes the events by date while the more detailed brochure organizes them by category. Headings are printed in warm colors to reinforce the concept of welcome and also relate to autumn, the season in which DesignWeek happens.
