Red, White & Ready (for the Perfect Fourth)
Your Guide to Hosting with the Mosting
Whether your style's more laid-back BBQ or all-day (and night) beach bash, we're here to make sure your party planning's a breeze. Follow our guide for all your 4th of July needs—from menu must-haves to entertainment essentials—and let the festivities begin.

Get comfortable
It doesn't matter if you have five people or 500—keeping your guests comfy is key. Start with enough seating for everyone: chairs, benches and blankets offer space to spread out, eat, mingle and relax. Keep sunscreen and bug spray handy, as well as lots of water. Offer umbrellas, or place seating in a shaded area for those looking to stay out of the sun.

Dig in
Time to eat! A good menu is at the heart of every great party. Start with all the BBQ classics: hotdogs and hamburgers, ribs, and chicken, then add a few meat-free alternatives (veggie burgers and tofu dogs are always solid bets). Add a variety of salads—pasta and potato, garden greens and fruit—and side staples like grilled corn, potato chips, gazpacho and cornbread. Satisfy every sweet tooth with cookies, pies and cobblers, and add a touch of fun with a signature cocktail (and its corresponding cocktail).

Entertain everyone
Make sure there's fun to be had for every age. For the kids, plan a designated area with bubbles, street chalk and water balloons (just remember to keep an eye on any water wars). If you're at a pool or by the beach, stock up on floats, noodles and toys. Keep a good flow with music (or karaoke, if you're daring), lawn and card games, and maybe a friendly game of flag football.

Ooh and ahh
Just because the sun sets, doesn't mean it gets dark on the 4th. Check out where the closest fireworks are—you can make a plan to head closer to see them, or figure out what direction they'll be in so you can enjoy the show from your party spot. Hand out sparkles and glow sticks, or some light-up accessories, for another fun touch.

Say thank you
Show your guests you're grateful they shared the day with you with a small parting gift. Fill a brown paper bag with sweets, send them off with mini American flags or (if you've got the budget) make personalized tee-shirts. If your guests made a long drive to your party, invite them to download the GasBuddy app so they can save while they're on the road! Plus, use our Trip Cost Calculator to plan the easiest (and most cost-effective) trip possible.
