Being an artist is like being anexplorer, you journey to discover things you have never thought of, thingsabout yourself and the world around you, expanding the boarders of your ownworld. When you return from your expedition, you show the world your findings.
Iam kinesthetic by nature. I have to touch things. So then it comes as nosurprise that I take great delight in working with tactile materials, Iconsider my primary media to be fabric. I have worked with many other artforms, but I always seem to come back to fabric. No matter the media, Iappreciate topography and layer in my pieces, even when they are twodimensional. I want to feel like my work has a weight or physical presence toit. Whether I am arranging, sewing, cutting or printing I like to leave thematerial I worked with to show itself.
I am costume designer by trade.Costume, as an art form is three dimensional sculpture, by itself it is static,it can be appreciated for the sculpture that it is, but when you place a personin that costume it becomes kinetic, and literally full of life. There issomething enchanting about an article of clothing that can bring out and embodyan alternate persona. The idea that I can create that kind of magic is a veryempowering thing for me.
