The Conservative Leadership
The fallout from the Brexit Referendum was always going to be an important time in British politics, but the added intrigue of a battle for the Conservative Leadership meant that more viewers than ever were taking an interest.
With so many new viewers watching we wanted our coverage of the leadership race to reach as many people, on as many platforms that we could. To try and engage with a younger audience via social media platforms we developed a suite of illustrations to represent the different candidates, many of whom they may not have already been familiar.
The challenge was to create illustrations simple, but instantly identifiable as candidates that viewers might not be familiar with. This meant I spent a long time analysing each candidate to find a single feature that helped show who they were – for example Boris Johnson’s hair or Michael Gove’s glasses.

This meant making sure that no illustration stood out amongst the others.
