Comm& Communication is the design for an app and smart glasses for the hearing impaired. My client's name is Rhea, she is a 23 year old with Chariot Marie Tooth Disease. This effects her ability to hear and sleep among other activities. Two of her most difficult daily tasks are conversing over the phone and in groups, as well as falling and staying asleep due to insomniac sleeping patterns. These glasses utilize some of the technology currently being used within concepts for smart glasses; I have looked at google glass, Toshiba Glass, and Sony SmaryEyeglass. Google glass was not successful mainly due to the bulky, and obtrusive frames. Within the glasses are microphones to pick up the user's voice and responses, a power source, such as batteries, projection technology with a light sources such as DLP that has been created by Texas Instrument, a reflective surface to reflect the image into the eye, a Bluetooth chip to connect the glasses wirelessly to a phone, and an accelerometer to scroll through the screen.
