Her, She, and I
Visual identity and exhibition catalogue for fictional exhibition Her, She and I. The focus
of this exhibition is on the shifting portrayal of femininity in contemporary art and would ideally
take place at the MOCA Geffen Museum in Downtown Los Angeles. The artists of this fictional
exhibition explore aesthetics, gender roles, and societal conventions of femininity in their
work. The works on view range from pioneering feminist artists of the 1970s; Brigit Jürgenssen,
Ana Mendieta, Cindy Sherman, Andy Warhol, and Hannah Wilke to more recent influential artists;
Catherine Opie, Lorna Simpson, and Linder Sterling. Often using photography as the medium
and their bodies as the canvas, these artists probe the psychology of gender roles. Together
the works highlight the ways in which artists have, over the past four decades sought to playfully
rebel against the stereotypes of feminine aesthetics.
