Final work 2016 Multec - PocketPlan

The thesis is one of the goals we have set ourselves for the final work. The thesis is the underlying structure of the project. It gives insight in the several indoor localization technologies, how they work and offers the pro's and contra's for each of them. The thesis helped us selecting the technology for the second goal of the final work; developping a mobile application.

This thesis outlines the final work of the bachelor Multimedia and communication technology curriculum under commission of the Erasmus University College in Brussels. The thesis and application is a collaboration by Ludovic Bonivert and Nick Van Holsbeeck.

The application part of the final work demonstrates the potential of Indoor localization technologies. We guide users through the Brussels Airport thanks to Bluetooth Low Energy and beacons. When the user access the application and find a beacon, he communicates with the back-end server and asks for the location. We linked each beacon to a location, so we can know where the user is and show the different points of interests where he can navigate to. The back-end has been implemented with Parse.

To get the shortest route to your destination, we had to implement a pathfinding algorithm. We integrated the Gameplaykit library from Apple to our application. Gameplaykit has several features like gamestates and randomization. Another feature is pathfinding.

We are happy to answer any questions you might have. Feel free to reach us out with your remarks.
