CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE
University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Creating a new cross-cultural identity
As worldwide Confucius Institutes do not seem to have an institutionalised architectural identity, they appear to lack a basic representation of traditional and modern Chinese culture, contradicting with the Institutes’ fundamental objective of promoting Chinese language and culture. Hence, research and experimentation on a new design language for the institute is needed.

A new building complex is intended for CI Melbourne, being used as a new business, education, culture and research facility. It will be the home of the University of Melbourne’s Confucius Institute, the Victorian Headquarters for the Australia China Business Council and cultural research facilities to foster Australia China relationships.
