Design Society Posters 2015/16

The Design Society is a student run and funded society dedicated to helping connect its members to the real design world. During my final year of study I was a designer for the society, which involved designing posters, and other forms of promotion for the events we held this year.

Here is a selection of the posters I designed selected to promote these events.
Doaly - The Mistress and the Wife

Doaly is a Graphic Designer and illustrator based in the United Kingdom who has gained a reputation for his amazing illustrations for the latest movies. Described by himself as designer, doodler, photographer, day dreamer, part time superhero.

This poster depicts the idea of balancing the work you do to pay the bills and the work you do for fun. The idea being if you love the work you will work in to the night being the dark side, and if its just to pay the bills you will do it during the day being the light side. Also included in the design is a light saber as a subtle hint toward the work produced by Doaly.
The Space Exhibition was our first exhibition of the year. Based around the broad term of "space". We invited designers, illustrators print makers and photographers from the university to imagine their interpretation of the word space.

The exhibition was a great success with lots of varied interpretations and formats of the term "space"

My design for the promotional items was a variety of minimal interpretations of our galaxy, with the lead design for the promotion being this interpretation of the planet Uranus
New North Press - 3D Type

New North Press is an artisan letterpress print studio in east London, UK

They came down from London to talk to us about one of their projects A23D, which is a 3D-printed letterpress font, commissioned by Richard Ardagh of New North Press. The font is a protoype, connecting the newest and the oldest forms of print technology, and looking to the future of letterpress in the 21st century. The font was designed by renowned type designers Scott Williams and Henrik Kubel, of A2-Type, and fabricated by model making specialists Chalk Studios.

To represent 3D type I hand cut these posters and layered them up to create a 3D poster.
Elixel - Designer in a Digital World

Creative director of Elixel, Paul Bird came to give us a lecture about his journey from going from print to digital design, looking at the challenges he has faced and what processes he has had to adapt to.

To represent this journey and the challenges he faced I created a poster that showed the typography being glitched to show a possible challenge of a designer in a digital world.
