ISTD: Eyewitness

The project brief is by ISTD: Eye Witness. This motion graphic installation piece is a response to the text from Iain McCalman’s The Reef - A Passionate History. The motion graphic will be projected in the entire room as part of the installation. The cracked graphic elements are representations of the fragility and fracture of the great barrier reefs. The process of making the visuals are done by photographing broken parts of mirror. Mirrors are used in light of the notion – the condition of the reefs being a reflection of our activities. Metaphorically, the shattering impact on a mirror is similar to the destruction of the reefs as they are both irreversible.
The packaging design and booklet are secondary items of the ISTD: Eyewitness project. Sea scented candles will be used as part of the installation to evoke a notion of the ocean to the audiences. This candle will also be sold in the gallery. In the packaging, a little booklet will be seated in it. The booklet consists of text from “Iain McCalman’s the reef - A Passionate History”. The texts are laid out in an expressive manner in accordance to the ideas in the passage and the notion of the ocean.
